My love of sports began as a child, most of my heroes were athletes. In my youth I always played football, in my 20’s I enjoyed basketball, 30’s tennis and 40’s running, swimming and yoga. When I reached 50, “Father Time” made his presence known (knee injuries, shoulder pain, lower back pain). I was told every injury from your youth comes back to “haunt you” once you turn 50. Needless to say, I continued working out, mostly in crowded commercial gyms, treadmills, ellipticals, not to mention people constantly flexing in mirrors and scrolling on their phones while I patiently waited for the machine. I would lose weight for a season, then find every lost pound. It seemed the best way to get rid of calories, was to eat them. I knew it was time for a lifestyle change. I tried Crossfit and was hooked immediately! I found the perfect mix of strength training, cardio & nutrition, plus the support and accountability I need to keep me going and change my lifestyle for the best!

During the Covid pandemic I became caregiver to both elderly parents. My mother’s ability to cook and clean wained, so I was responsible for providing them with healthy meals and managing their home. It was exhausting and at times overwhelming. Soon after, my mother began falling, unable to walk then eventually in a wheelchair. Her decline help to change my perspective of fitness, it’s not just optical or aesthetic, but functional. Crossfit is functional fitness. I needed the strength to lift, squat and push in order to take care of my mother, not to mention endurance and rest, for only the strong can take care of the weak. I wanted to be healthy not only for myself, but for my parents, wife and children, so they wouldn’t become future caregivers.

As a coach, I make every effort to get to know our members and understand their goals. I encourage them to work hard and succeed in achieving a healthy body weight while gaining strength and endurance. I want them to be physically and mentally prepared for whatever life may bring in the future. The best gift you can give your family is a healthy parent and spouse. I don’t want anyone wasting their best years in doctor offices and their savings on prescription medication. Crossfit can give anyone, regardless of age, ability or experience the necessary tools to live a healthier lifestyle, which ultimately benefits all our loved ones.
