The 3-“P’s” to Success

(Hint: None of them are “Perfection”)

We all want progress…preferably fast, visible, and preferably by next Tuesday. But most of us know the quiet frustration of starting something new—showing up, trying, and wondering if it’s even working. The workouts feel awkward, the habits feel forced, and the results? Well…they’re taking their sweet time. It’s easy to assume something’s wrong or that maybe this just isn’t “your thing.” But this is the part most people don’t realize: what you’re experiencing isn’t failure—it’s the process doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.

The first “P” is practice, and this is where everything begins—usually a little messy, a little uncomfortable, and far from perfect. Whether it’s showing up to your first few workouts, learning a new movement, or trying to build better nutrition habits, practice is simply doing the thing…over and over again. It’s not about getting it right right away—it’s about getting reps in. This is the stage where most people feel unsure, maybe even a little frustrated, because nothing feels natural yet. But that’s exactly the point. Practice is how you turn “I don’t know how” into “I’m starting to get it.” It’s not glamorous, but it’s necessary.

Right alongside practice comes the second “P”: patience. And this is the one that tends to test people the most. Because while you’re putting in the work, results don’t always show up on your timeline. You might feel stronger before you look different. You might feel better before the scale moves. You might even question if what you’re doing is working at all. This is where consistency quietly does its job in the background. Patience is choosing to keep going anyway—to trust that the effort you’re putting in is building something, even if you can’t fully see it yet. It’s less about waiting and more about continuing.

And then, almost when you stop obsessing over it, the third “P” shows up: progress. Not all at once, and not always in big, dramatic ways—but in the small wins that start to stack up. A movement that finally clicks. A weight that feels lighter. Energy that lasts longer throughout the day. Clothes fitting differently. Confidence creeping in where doubt used to live. Progress is the result of practice and patience working together over time. It’s not something you chase—it’s something you earn by staying consistent long enough for it to find you.

Progress is built on practice, and practice requires patience. Not glamorous, not exciting, and definitely not instant. It’s repeating the basics when you’d rather skip ahead. It’s choosing to show up when motivation is nowhere to be found. It’s trusting that small, consistent actions—day after day, rep after rep—are quietly stacking into something meaningful. Consistency is the thread that ties it all together. Without it, patience runs out and practice never gets the chance to turn into progress.

So if you’re in that in-between space—the one where you’re trying but not seeing the payoff yet—stay there a little longer. That’s where change actually happens. Keep showing up, keep practicing, and give your effort enough time to work. Because progress doesn’t usually announce itself with fireworks…it shows up one day and surprises you. And when it does, it’s worth every bit of patience it asked for.
